Thanks smile,
I was thinking of getting whatever boat I was looking at seen by a boat surveyor, a guy quoted me $250 to have a look and write a report. The deckie idea sounds like a plan as well , the more people with experience I'm around the better.
Cheers

I would look at upgrading your car first, I love the focus. But no way would I tow anything seaworthy behind the car, unless you live 2 minutes away from the ramp.

If my memory serves me. 4x4 hilux has tow capacity of 2.5 ton and i think the whittley will exceed it

My calculations are
Hull 1.64t
Motor 350kg

Thats 2 ton. Add trailer min 500+kg

Add 200kg for fuel
Add 50kg for electronic
Add 100kg for.fishing gear

If you go on a game fiahing trip add 4 blocks at 80kg eack plus eskys and luggage 450+kg

Almost 3.2+ ton in weight

No...everyone on board needs to wear a lifejacket if it's under 4.8meters. Wouldn't be surprised if they make it compulsory to wear lifejackets all the time regardless of the size of the boat soon anyway.
