New SA built Sharpcraft
This isn't something I'd normally do with zero experience in one but this certainly looks the goods for anyone in that 5m market. Just had a look at the new 4.7 Scout review and damn it's very well laid out for such a small boat with what looks like very high build quality. Dimensions suggest a very stable boat at rest if not a little hard riding when it chops up bad, not that most in this size aren't similar. High sides are perfect for kids and it's sharply priced.
If I was buying now, I'd certainly consider one high on my list

Looks a nice boat, but jeez these things are becoming expensive!
By the time you get an electronics package and all the things you need to make it what you want, there will be no change out of 40k minimum for a 4.7 metre boat.

You need 50k to deck out a signature 495 or Haines profish 495.Spook wrote:Looks a nice boat, but jeez these things are becoming expensive!

You mean the fold down section in the front of the engine well? That is so the engine can trim up all the way when on the trailer.
Have to wonder why it has a 15 deg hull though.

Re: New SA built Sharpcraft
That was my 1st thought, but I'd imagine you'd crack the door or engine cover a few times until you got used opening it before you lifted the motor (perhaps it was a last minute modification due to an oversight?)frozenpod wrote:You mean the fold down section in the front of the engine well? Re: New SA built Sharpcraft
I doubt it was an oversight.
There has been a trend in recent years of having a solid flat back (which is great) but the trade off is this puts the motors a long way back which whilst looks good in the show room is crap when fishing. Reaching around the motor when fighting a few ect becomes an issue.
Haines Hunter's new 565 has the same design with the folding door.
It appears manufactures are going back to the older design which worked better but had the potential to have a splash of water come in the back and the door resolves the issue.
I still think the seafarer and haines signature half well/pod setup worked best, full height flat back with the motor easily able to be reached around.
Looked very neat and worked perfectly.
