Winch Strap Replacement
Do any of you clever chaps know how to replace a winch strap on a Dunbier winch. It has me buggered as there are no circlips, screws or bolts...just a roll pin. Just want to know if anyone has done one & is it as simple as punching out the roll pin so the rod can be pulled out?

Re: Winch Strap Replacement
from memory i think you unroll the whole thing, and it just slides out of the small tube its rolled on.
the tube has a slit on it , you will have to unroll it to see what i mean.

Re: Winch Strap Replacement
All my experience with this type of strap, not on boats.
When you take it all off, there will be a slot in the barrel, which takes the end, pop the end in a wind.
Take it all off and you will see, as purple said

Re: Winch Strap Replacement
if the rods going though it as you say, then its probably a different type to what ive seen.
the roll pin will need to be hammered out and the rod slid out.
you can buy new roll pins from your local nut and bolts shop, theres few different sizes so take your one with you,
i found out the hard way.

Yes as purple has said it's the roll pin that
needs to be punched out. It's that little circular thing with a slit on the left hand side of the drum. Once that's out remove the shaft and the drum should be free.

Re: Winch Strap Replacement
you can re-use, but get some new ones for safety,.
also they go in one way only, theres a chamfer on one side, thats what goes in first.. then hammer the rest in.
