If you've got gunnels, then under there is the best place I recon.
Ditto about attracting bugs but if orange light works that's great.
Dimmable is great too.
I got 2 x 5m rolls, one for each side.
They put out heaps of light but I reckon a small white led work light is also required for tangled and knot tying at night.

I would also go under the gunnels if you have the option, that way the light is directed downward eliminating glare by quite a bit.
Also if you want underwater lights look at the bung lights its an easy option and no need for holes or anything.
Im looking to do mine as well but I got no room under the gunnels so it will have to be on the side of them.

Checking out bunnings they have 10meter one . Light up all around boat..
