On another note this is a great reminder to everyone to inspect there gear closely.
Every year I take the boat off the trailer tied it up at the ramp and spend anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hrs going over the trailer.
Checking and unblocking drain holes, looking for damage/rust, inspect springs, checking wiring for damage, replacing split pins, spray a few sections of inox ect.
Most years the time taken to inspect is 30 minutes but well worth it.
July through to early September is the perfect time for a job like this.

If I buy a trailer over 6x4 it has to be registered,but not (necessarily) roadworthy ?
Does a boat need a "seaworthy" to transfer registration ???
When I first read this post I thought, shouldn't that have been picked up during the roadworthy.

Tex, as smile said with his, probably wasn't easily noticeable with boat on trailer. I know when I bought mine it was mainly lights they checked
over at the transfer or registering. You would think if they saw something they would halt it !
BUT and I emphasise a big BUT, this scenario clearly shows, and I was being very diplomatic in my responses, at the end of the day, owners must take responsibility, ignorance or lack of knowledge is no defence if a situation arises on the road and a trailer issue occurs, which bluntly putting it, could very well end up killing someone very easily. I've seen less issues with a trailer drag both car and boat off the road and down an embankment which ended up with 4 occupants in hospital with serious injuries.
F.P quite properly put up his maintenance procedure, of which I nearly follow the same regime and I cant stress enough to all else with a boat to follow suit, or if incapable take it to someone competent to undertake a yearly inspection. Owning a boat doesn't mean sitting for a liscence and getting your outboard serviced annually, as the owner of a boat any such failures on the road, will see the owner completely liable...........

what im not understanding is how come only one side has this issue and the other one is Ok??
when putting boat in both sides get immersed equally..
Im assuming Other side is ok because simley has got it looked at and nothing was done to the other side.

ok, so both sides looked buggered to me then, did they do anything to the left side to strengthen it??

She certainly is rusting from inside out, all the surface rust appearing on the outside, is sort of indicating that its gone.......

My guess is the previous owner let it sit with salt water in the main frame.

I would be saving up for a new trailer. I don't think to many people flush out the box sections I used to flush my dunbier from the front to the back. I like the new trailers made of c section rather than box section easier to rinse the salt water off.
