Boat trailer conversion
My dunbar boat trailer is single axle and I wonder if anyone has made their single axle trailer into a dual. I understand that it can be done, and does anyone have any idea on costs?

Re: Boat trailer conversion
Depends how much over hang you have from the rear axle to the back of the trailer.
I tossed up the idea a few years back but didnt have enough distance and the outside edge of the wheel was almost at the back rollers.
This is roughly what i was looking at getting.

Or cheaper

Re: Boat trailer conversion
Both those kits you've linked are useless for changing a single axle to tandem axle.

Re: Boat trailer conversion
My mate bought a Haines signature 540f poverty pack from Jv on a single axle dunbier trailer. He soon found it wasn't up to the job and had a second axle put in he took it to a dunbier authorised repair joint cost a bit looks good now and tows really good

I changed a boat trailer from a tri axle to a quad and also made it into a fifth wheeler but thats probably over kill for you - it was for my bosses sharkcatWolly Bugger wrote:My dunbar boat trailer is single axle and I wonder if anyone has made their single axle trailer into a dual. why are you need to uprate the trailer is it a weight issue

Re: Boat trailer conversion
No it is a towing issue. It gets a little wobbly above 95ks and if the balance is upset by a bump, it wobbles a little bit. My cousin who is a trucky keeps suggesting getting a dual axle trailer. I spoke to the boys at The Trailer repair centre and costs around 2k to make it dual.cheaterparts wrote:I changed a boat trailer from a tri axle to a quad and also made it into a fifth wheeler but thats probably over kill for you - it was for my bosses sharkcatWolly Bugger wrote:My dunbar boat trailer is single axle and I wonder if anyone has made their single axle trailer into a dual. I had the suspension in the car up graded and this did make a little difference. The other suggestion was too move the axle back to increase the tow ball weight so I'll have go and weigh the rig to do it right.

Re: Boat trailer conversion
Sort out your ball weight issues first and it will most likely come good.
I'd only go dual if the weight demanded it.

Re: Boat trailer conversion
Sounds like you don't have enough ball weight but how big is your boat?
Glass 17-22ft should be on dual.
