Boat trailer conversion

Post by Wolly Bugger » Thu Jul 06, 2017 3:37 pm

My dunbar boat trailer is single axle and I wonder if anyone has made their single axle trailer into a dual. I understand that it can be done, and does anyone have any idea on costs?

Depends how much over hang you have from the rear axle to the back of the trailer.

I tossed up the idea a few years back but didnt have enough distance and the outside edge of the wheel was almost at the back rollers.

This is roughly what i was looking at getting.

Both those kits you've linked are useless for changing a single axle to tandem axle.

No it is a towing issue. It gets a little wobbly above 95ks and if the balance is upset by a bump, it wobbles a little bit. My cousin who is a trucky keeps suggesting getting a dual axle trailer. I spoke to the boys at The Trailer repair centre and costs around 2k to make it dual.

I had the suspension in the car up graded and this did make a little difference. The other suggestion was too move the axle back to increase the tow ball weight so I'll have go and weigh the rig to do it right.

Sort out your ball weight issues first and it will most likely come good.

I'd only go dual if the weight demanded it.

Sounds like you don't have enough ball weight but how big is your boat?

Glass 17-22ft should be on dual.
