Re: Boat trailer conversion
If its a weight problem and need more tow ball weight i would just move the axle back a foot before doing anything else

Re: Boat trailer conversion
did it at the start of the year, cost roughly $1100 for the whole kit, springs, axles, hubs, brakes, cables, coupling, etc, mounted all the hangers on a gal angle then bolted it to the aluminium chassis

Re: Boat trailer conversion
Therefore 8.2% ball weight.
It is a touch on the low side for a single axle.
I personally would convert it to tandem but if you want to stay single move the axle back or try putting extra weight up front.

Re: Boat trailer conversion
The budget at present doesn't allow for a tandem, so I will move the axle back for the time being.frozenpod wrote:Therefore 8.2% ball weight.

Re: Boat trailer conversion
at 1460kg i hope it hasnt got just a normal 40 or 45mm axle with holden or ford bearings, 40mm with holden bearings is only good for 1000kg, 45mm on ford bearings 1400kg. over that its bigger 50mm axles with much bigger bearings or tandem. just another side of the equation to consider

Re: Boat trailer conversion
The tow ball weight can be up to 160 kg. Maximum tow weight is 1600kg.smile0784 wrote:How much tow ball weight can your car handle?
So add another 100kg for the extra axle and wheels that brings the total to 1540 kg.
