Werribee boat ramp.

Post by Yota » Thu Jul 06, 2017 12:31 pm

G'day all, I might have a go Saturday morning out from Werribee.
I've never launched from there.
I've got a 5.5m fibreglass boat.
Unfortunately I'm going to miss the early high tide, so if I launch on a low tide will I have any problems getting out into the bay from there ?
Thought I might try for some calamari before the next tide in the afternoon- weather permitting. Can anyone point me to a likely squid area near Werribee?
Thanks
Jamie

It gets pretty shallow there on a low tide and can be full of weed as well. I haven't been recently though.

Altona is a much nice ramp to launch from in my opinion and you can get squid pretty much straight out from the ramp.

You will be fine at werrible on the low but like anth said altona is easier.

Ive got a 6.2 meter boat and ive taken it out on the very low often

You just need to follow the chanel out until the first markers..its very simple.

They were dredging it a few weeks ago so should be deeper now

Thanks Anth, yes I normally launch from Altona too, but I thought with the wind on Saturday Werribee might be better for something different.
Cheers

I launched there last Friday night/Saturday morning @ midnight, same size 5.5m fibreglass. From memory it was a couple of hours before low tide. Didn't have any issues getting out into the bay with 3POB & all the gear.
It was my first time launching there as well so other members might be more help. However things that i found you might want to look out for;
- the rockwall/stumps straight out in front,
- head straight for the channel markers to the left,
- definately prop up, it is shallow.
- there's a few ramps to the water, avoid the one with the broken walking path if you can.

As for spots, i went across to St Leonards from there, fished the weed beds around the pier. Don't know Werribee well enough to offer assistance..

Good luck!
Az.

Thanks Mick, ok that's settles my mind a bit I might give it a go weather permitting.
So your boat, 6.2m, is that the overall length ?
Dredging there is a bit reassuring too.
Believe it or not I haven't had the opportunity yet to swing around from Altona to Werribee whilst on the water. So I just thought it would be a good opportunity to give it a try.
Any reports of what's biting this time of year ?

Thanks

Thanks Azkay that's good info.
Yes St Leonard's is good.
How long did it take you ?
Did you motor across to St Leonard's at midnight from Werribee?
Wow good work.
I'd want a radar and mega lights for that, I've seen too many boats with no nav lights for that Ha Ha.
Thanks
Jamie

Werribee is a good ramp plenty of big boats go out from there without issue. Just be careful at very low tides.

Try straight out from marina in 6 plus meters for squid also or head down to Raaf base...
