The old mercs had terrible wiring looms so perhpas it was a wire issue.
I would start buy inspecting the plugs and cleaning the carbies and resetting float heights.

Thanks guys i was looking at maybe doing it myself. But once serviced would that stop the flashing light. I haven't read anything on that yet. Or would you need a fault code reader to clear it?

Normally there is a way to clear the service light without plugging a computer.

Yeah thanks mate I did some reading today and found you have to have running. Push the kill switch 3 times in 3 seconds but without killing the motor. If that makes sense to you.
