The Corner Inlet Entrance certainly is not a bar.rb85 wrote:Bad luck Welshpool can be challenging but very rewarding.
5 ways and Singapore deep are not bar crossings but a deep water entrance with lots of water movement and turbulence causing rough waters when you experience wind against tide.
Port Albert and McGlaughlins are dangerous bars to crossing on their day. Try Singapore deep again it can be a walk in the park with the right conditions.

Bar or no bar, it was rough and the fact that you can only get in and out through this tiny corridor makes it even more difficult.frozenpod wrote:The Corner Inlet Entrance certainly is not a bar.
See the photo below, in red the path I took and orange my return path. In black area areas where big waves were forming then breaking.

It was pretty rough around 5 ways when scott and I came back in but I don't remember seeing any breakers. That I'm aware of he's probably the most experienced on here regarding that area.

Re: Port Welshpool offshore crossing
Chris the entrance compared with many others I consider wide.
I have been going through 30ish times a year for close to 30 years. It is not uncommon to see steep and close 1.5-2m waves through there.
Certainly is a great place to test boats.

Must've been the running tide against the swell, because those waves were about the same height as my boat and very close together.frozenpod wrote:Chris the entrance compared with many others I consider wide.

I will give it another shot on a calm day and at slack tide.
Is that the only route in/out (following the markers) or do you guys cut in through somewhere else?

There are short cuts both sides.
But 90% of the time I go straight out as I like to fish around Seal Island.

Re: Port Welshpool offshore crossing
It can get messy when going out through Singapore deep sometimes, but usually that's just wind against tide, and you will only get breakers along the sand bank towards low tide. When it's like that, it's usually easier to sneak through the passage to the south, which will take you straight to rabbit island and is usually protected :thumbsup:ChrisAbout wrote:Bar or no bar, it was rough and the fact that you can only get in and out through this tiny corridor makes it even more difficult.frozenpod wrote:The Corner Inlet Entrance certainly is not a bar.

Scott is spot on there Chris, I was hesitant first time I did it but you can cut through on the south very close to the land sort of where the black line starts on your picture at the entrance on the left side.
I have sat in the entrance in similar sloppy conditions as you describe, but it is tide against wind as everyone describes, on a calm day its an easy enough in and out trip
