Fuel economy

Post by Wolly Bugger » Sun May 14, 2017 1:17 pm

Using the word economy and boating in the same sentence, is that if cars got the same mileage they would be on the scrape heap. Take for example my LPG Ford, it uses about 12 litres per hundred K's, if not towing the anchor on the highway and about 15 around town.

The other day I filled the tank in my boat, reset the distance meter on the GPS and travelled about 46-48 k's, I had forgot to turn it on. Went out through the heads, down to the Canberra and then back up to Blairgowie before putting the boat back on the trailer.

This morning I again filled the fuel tank and it took 25 litres of fuel. Giving me almost 2k per liter so going by these figures, I can go to the self from Portland, do some trolling and might possibly run out of fuel at Lawrence Rock, maybe even make it to the breakwall.

The break wall would be pretty good as we then could paddle the rest of the distance.

And before any one suggests it, I always carry a jerry can of spare fuel.

2km per litter is exactly what I would expect from your size boat with a 4 st.
