Yeah success

Post by Wolly Bugger » Tue Feb 14, 2017 2:54 pm

Well I finally got around to getting a hole cut in the rear floor of the boat and an access hatch put in, to reach the bilge pump.

Firstly the bilge pump was not in its cradle, so put it back in and it still didn't work, thought about just cutting the wires and adding a new bilge pump.
Spent a few hours trying to follow the wiring, eventually kind of sort it out, pulled the wiring out of the switch, tried testing the switch but no joy, so went and bought another switch, added the wiring to it and the bilge pump worked, and then it wouldn't work.

Lots of mucking around and found it had been wired to a second switch, so both switches need to be on for it to work. Replaced the faulty switch and bingo I now have a bilge pump that works, I will be adding a second on as a back up.

Along with this attached a fuel gauge to the fuel tank and I now have a fuel gauge as well, it took awhile to get the wires around the right way, the earth was right, but the positive and the sender wires had to be switched around.

I couldn't recommend more the purchasing of a good multimeter.

How does one even get shocks off a baitboard on a glass boat?

I put a temporary bilge pump in that didn't work, when I put my hand in the water, I got an electrical shock.

Now I'll be happier knowing I can get rid of any water that gets in the boat, because it gets a bit tail heavy if too much water gets in.

Was the original bilge actually damaged or were you not switching it on due to the second switch you found.

The bilge pump was moving around the back end, the switch was actually faulty and I put a new switch in, but both switches need to be on for it to work.
