out flow is like wind against tide the waves stand up more when it hit the out going water - patto or the mouth of the dandenong creek has a small flow more of cause and the tide is going out
biggest problem is inside the river mouth is protected so once you hit the bay the wave action is bigger with bad condition and it also is shallower so the wave stand up

Yep Patto doesn't have a bar. If you're adamant on heading out, expect water as you punch into it. And either surf the back of one, or power hard over the top of them all when coming back in. First if your back is dodgy, latter if you enjoy it

IMO you still treat it as a bar...different story if its 3kt winds... hit that entrance on a 15kt or more with tide going out and tell me thats not like a bar crossing..lol

If there is no bar there, why do they need to dredge it?

Question from a position of complete ignorance. Not a boater got no idea although had a few hairy experiences there with mates when tide, current and wind are working against each other

The dredge is there at the moment, and there is a sand bar that sticks out to about half way in the entrance which makes the waves stand up and break.

There is a bar crossing couse thats held in lakes entrance its about $250.. every time ive booked to go they canceled booking because of weather..so haven't done it yet..

On another note ...how was your motor trimmed? I found in mine it works great tilted up as it gets the front up quick when you give it a handful of throttle

A following sea can be very hairy..
Whilst it depends on the exact situation normally you try and keep the bow down.

Following sea should be easier.
Might be worth looking into your boats balance.

Theres should of been a space in there...two different situations..
Hard to get across in words for this truck driver...lol..
Ment to say tilted up for heading into waves..
I belive mines setup up great..

Firstly there wasn't much space between the waves, over one and under the other and they were steep,

If I recall my instructions correctly in a following sea the bow is trimmed up to avoid broaching, and into a head sea, the bow is trimmed down to punch into the waves.

The amount of trim would depend on how the boat handled, speed is dependant, I do know in some conditions the faster the boat goes the more comfortable the ride, but not in situations like Monday,

Trim is very dependent on the speed as well.
