Patterson river Bar crossing

Post by Wolly Bugger » Mon Oct 17, 2016 6:53 am

Well organised last night to go out, hoping the wind might have died off.

Anyway we launched a Patto and headed out, well the mouth of the patto didn't look too bad and we copped a few waves over the bow. Here I am thinking we are home and hosed once we get out of shallow water, Then it happened instead over going over a wave as boats are suppose to do, we went through it, not sure if the water pressure popped the press studs that held the front clear on, but we got a 44 gallon bucket of water dumped over us.

I thought to myself, why didn't I put my wet weather gear on as I was drenched to the bone. We went out to 10 metres and it was still pretty lumpy with waves from different directions, so pulled the pin and headed back in.

Entering the mouth was almost heart in mouth stuff, :o_0: trying not to surf the waves, and not letting the following one over the back, a few times the bow was doing it's best to become a submarine. But getting wet once was enough so we managed to get back into the Patto without any further mishaps.

Time to dry off and empty the water out of the boat.

Took the bung out and it drained water for about 10 mins or more, must been over 100 litres and it is going to not do my lawn much good, should have done it in the street.

I know your pain...and to add to that i dropped tunaoil on the deck...thats why carpet went it that next weekend ...lol

There is a bar crossing couse thats held in lakes entrance its about $250.. every time ive booked to go they canceled booking because of weather..so haven't done it yet..

On another note ...how was your motor trimmed? I found in mine it works great tilted up as it gets the front up quick when you give it a handful of throttle

A following sea can be very hairy..

Just to clarify it is not a bar.

Bar is when a river meets the ocean.

It can get nasty out there though.

If you're worried about the lawn give the area a really good watering with fresh water and sprinkle a bit of gypsum over it.

What causes it then? Waves reaching shallow water, making them stand up or something?
