Tuff Winch

Post by Mattblack » Wed Oct 12, 2016 2:07 pm

Hi All...I'm looking into putting a drum winch on the boat....has anyone bought, or have an opinion on "TUFF WINCH" made in Sunshine. I just read the google reviews and they didn't seem quite legitimate.

Cheers Chris,
Think I'll be doing just that (there was a good forum on here about it and it seems Lone Star has a lot of fans)....I swear that bloody anchor seems to be gaining weight each time I go out!

It's not going to be cheap is it....do I need to set up a dual battery system as well?

IMO...i bought one that suited a 5m boat..
Id never have a boat again without one..
If i was doing it again id go biggest the boat can fit and worry about the price later...yes cost abit but after fee months you will forget the cost...but love the pulling power
Again IMO if it was a choice between 2 batteries and smaller motor ...id go one battery and bigger motor you only use winch with outboard running anyway
Get 2nd battery system at a later date.

Thankyou again kind Sir....I've got a 5 mt aluminium boat and was considering the smallest option (GX1) & dual battery as per advice from a dealer.
Are you suggesting go bigger so there is less strain on the winch motor = reliability? Will certainly look at not putting in a dual battery as well (cost, storage, weight, maintenance, I'd rather do without!)

this is what i bought..
https://hammermarine.com/shop/anchor-winches/g3-500d/ all up was about 1100 for winch and 300 for bow sprit, i fitted it my self and saved a bit

the GX1 is way better, but id go GX2 if i was doing it..
a second battery is always the best option, but as long as you take a jump pack you can put off a 2nd battery
