To console or not to console

Post by Tackleberry » Sat Sep 17, 2016 12:33 am

That is the question i am asking myself ATN hmmmmmmm but the more i think about it the more

i like the idea , as now i have a boat i use it more outside in the ocean than i do chasing bream and

other estuary fish .

has anyone done it and if so what are the pit falls (besides a wad of cash) it will mean moving the

battery down the back and a hole new rewire that doesn't concern me as i will do that my self and

at least this time it will be done right .

this is what i have in mind it is a 4.2M blue fin with a 40HP 4 stroke .

to put this

any advice appreciated .

ive had a side console and loved it ( 5m topender)

my boat now is a centre console cause the pitall off the side console is that i couldnt walk around it

you cant have the best off both worlds but i built a console boat cause fishing and camping comes first

it will be the best thing to do to your boat imo

if you can do your own wiring it wont be that expensive..i think the consoles are around 500

I would put it as close to the motor as you can...its alot softer ride.

I put mine as close as I could but to leave enough room to fish

You will loose room apart from that. Its a lot beter than the tiller steer.

If you want to have best of both worlds
Aka bream and snapper
Put the console in the middle
Use the casting deck up front for bream and space in the back to bait fish.

The battery can go in the console on the bottom. Or the fuel tank can go there.

If you put the console at the back you havve more chance of spray hitting you. But as mentioned has a softer ride.

You will need to buy forward controls and steering cables and wheel.

For where you're fishing I would do it, my last two boats were cc's and the driving position felt more secure and had better visibility than my current tiller steer rig, especially when standing up and steering. Due to the thwart seats I'd probably mount the console forward of centre and compromise the ride a little to maximize the floor space.

and here is a pic of the same model of Quintrex CC 5 meter i bought in 1990 but if you look in the red circle you

will see a plug they were for 2 pedestal seats they were great for soaking baits in the river and when i went

off sore they were left at home , my boat had a suzuki 85HP it got along pretty good and although at rest it

was the best boat i had had to fish out of the haines hunters that i owned over the years were a lot softer riding

and better fited out .
