Best 18ft boat

Post by Hardyakka » Fri Aug 19, 2016 8:01 pm

Hi all.

I am hoping to get the best possible 18ft boat. Mainly used for offshore and snapper fishing. I want a no frills type off fishing boat, Cuddy cabin, mono hull and preferably fibreglass. Something that would handle up to 200hp. I am wondering options are out there and whats people thoughts on them.

Cheers

Just wondering why the 18ft with the near 200hp requirement. I have an 18ft Caribbean with a new 130hp E-Tec on it and fish quite regularly out from Cape Otway and never feel the need for anymore power.

For that power it's Cootacraft Gunshot or pretty much nothing. Super quick, awesome in chop, average stability at rest and damn expensive with a wait for new or rare as hens teeth second hand. Drop the max HP down to 150 and you open up a whole heap of options around the 5.5m mark

this is entirely subjective, to someone like me no but to someone

that thinks a haines hunter is unstable at rest . AFAIC there is nothing

wrong with a haines at rest . and yes i have had not one but 3 over the

years .

I consider the Gunshoot to be good at rest, certainly no barge but better than the similar haines hulls.
