New baitboard install
Hi All
With the crappy weather atm it's a good time to fiddle with the boat so I decided to upgrade my little single leg board with something more substantial. It was a bit small and flimsy and a bit too low so was harsh on my back when standing at it for a while cleaning fish or cutting baits etc.
The old one
The new one installed, an Axis large rod holder model, has a cutting area of 700 x 370mm, a 60cm ruler, decent tackle tray/knife holder and is quite heavy for a cheap board.
For mounting I used heavy duty welded s/s rod holders and 6mm screws, washers and nuts, with a good coating of TefGel to help prevent electrolysis. It's a bit disconcerting drilling 50mm holes in your boat so I purchased a new Sutton bimetal holesaw for the job and it cut through the 3mm alloy like butter. The legs lock into the rod holder gimbals well and its really solid, much better than my old setup and is now at a comfortable working height.
I recycled the drain fitting from the old board, these are ridiculously expensive for some reason, just need a longer piece of hose.
The new board quickly and easily folds in, good for places like the St Leonards ramp where anything protruding past the gunnel can get caught and broken on the jetty.
Now I Can't wait to get some blood and guts on it!

Looks great. Nothing worse than having a part of your boat hit or snag the jetty
