How do I fix or replace the plastic on front hatch?

Post by smile0784 » Tue May 17, 2016 2:47 pm

Hi
Just after some advice on how to fix my front hatch on the boat?
I think its possible to pull the old one out and put a new piece in and then just put a silicon seal.
Does anyone know where to buy a new sheet of plastic?
I spoke to quintrex and they said need to see a aluminium fabricator to make up a new one for around $500
Any other ideas or a cheaper option.

Cheers Ricki

Is the hatch Plastic / See through or not
Leave broken piece/s in place and Realign the broken edges, apply "Selleys 401 adhesive" the top surface/crack and allow to harden for a few days, the longer the better - When hardened sufficiently remove hatch and repeat process on "Underside"
or
Maybe replace with "Toughened Glass" - Check around for Glass cutting companies in your region as to who may be able to cut for you.

Good Luck

There are plenty of places that cut perspex to size. Just get the measurements and tell them. Cheaper option by far

You need to use polycarbonate not plastic. There plenty of plastics fabricators around with routers. All you need to do is take in the broken piece and they can make a new one.
