Ok this is the boat my brother wants. Can carry max 4 passengers and will struggle to fish more than 3 off the back. Its basically brand new so wouldn't have to worry about any of the above issues mentioned as its got 6.1hrs on the clock. Suppose it will rule out offshore but seems like a great price and a great boat to learn in. Comes with everything we need except a baitboard.
Thing that hurts the most was I walked past this boat everyday while it was being raffled off. I bought about 10 tickets for the dam thing to hahaha!!

That boat is a beauty mate! My partners step dad is also interested in exactly the same boat.Stevieboy wrote:http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium

Instead of the cougar you have http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium
Smaller, but solid hulls http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... um&index=2
Older, but fairly well appointed
http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium
Updated version of the 560 http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium
Solid boats
http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium
Then there's this with a brand new motor on it for a touch over. http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... ss=Premium
In the end what I'd buy right now off my quick search might not be what you want. There's a million variables at play here. How much storage room and height at home for the boat. What will the tow vehicle be, especially getting up the hill at sorrento. Exactly how keen are you on heading offshore and how often you'd actually do it. How much extra money will you be prepared to spend on any upgrades you want/need. How you'd go handling the boat on the water. And more than I can think of right now. It's an ok budget to start with to find the right boat.
Edit: 495s are good boats, but far better suits to bay fishing than offshore. They're a rejig of the 470.

Once again thanks for the input frozen really appreciate it
All legit questions purple. My father in law owned a boat for about 15 years sold it before I come along so he will be helping us out in every sense.
I have fished on a boat with mates and been on charters and I do realise what is involved but obviously will have a lot more to learn aswell. I am aware of majority or work involved before and after in terms of cleaning and prepping aswell as the upkeep of the boat.
I've got a fg ute with 2.5tonne towing and my brother has got a land cruiser prado with I think 2.5tonne towing aswell.
Storage is definetly not an issue.
Reason I put this post up was to get peoples opinions because as I said I've never owned a boat so really appreciate all the input.
when i seen this.
i assumed ZERO knowledge about boating.Well lets put this into perspective first.
I've only been fishing a year or so and wouldn't have the first clue of buying a boat or even operating one. I'm still learning how to tie different fishing knots hahaha!
i hope you find the boat your looking for soon, and have fun
cheers

Re: Brother is buying a boat need some advice.
The Haines would be my pick so far, but the single axle was a good point, personally, it needs to be a tandem.
There's plenty of choices out there with a 30k budget.
Firstly, thinking ahead is a good move, having a manageable bay boat, could be totally different to a boat you want to use out wide.
choosing a boat that will cover all your basis is sensible.
Search around on all the boat sale places, ask questions, then target the boat brand, size and motor type that you come up with.
Don't rush into it ! I stress that, this is the ideal place to put up suggestions on makes and power type etc.
But I'm sure with that budget in hand and searching hard you will get a suitable boat that fits the needs.
You'll get some straight up comments here from people that have had many different boats and power combinations and can comment
from experience, its still ultimately your decision, but nothing beats experience !
good luck with your search, look forward to seeing some options put up here.......

But for handling etc n to do overnight fishing at least get 542 SIGnature ...
Imo if you want a boat to learn I'd buy a older tinny for 10 to 15 $ that could take a hit or two .
Then after @ year sell it n upgrade.

Re: Brother is buying a boat need some advice.
Everyone will have there own point of view on whats good or not....
2 things id like to put out..
1. Anything under 4.7 i belive, all passangers have to wear pfd's all the time...can narrow down the resale value when you go bigger.
2. Take out as many boats on the water as you can..if seller says no...walk away..
My boat wont suit everyone but it suits me..i fish on my own..launch and retrieve and is a capable offshore boat but when you hear its 5meters people can have second hand opinions on what its capable of doing
