Surtees

Post by St3vil » Wed Sep 05, 2012 6:28 pm

Hi again guys,

Well after much deliberation i have finally made a decision on a boat.

I have looked at the bar crusher, stabicraft and surtees.

The verdict:

I ended up picking the Surtees 4.85 workmate for a couple of reasons.

Firstly i had been out on the Barcrusher 610 and i've gotta say it was a great boat and the customer service from Phil was awesome. The boat itself felt great with the 140 Suzuki on the back and with a couple of options on it this boat had the lot. Great finish and an all round beast.
I was keen but then re considered as i couldn't justify the 70k outlay.

My next step was to go into a Stabicraft which as i mentioned in my last thread i had been in for the past 3 or 4 years.
The new 1850sc is a freakin beast. Man this boat is awesome and again loaded with features. A little smaller but heaps of fishing space.
Come standard with live tank and Anchor winch. You can set this rig up for under $60k and although i was very tempted i had to pass it up as i decided for the fishing that i do it was a bit of an overkill.

I ran with the Surtees because a) it fit my budget and b) my fishing needs.

I have added a couple of basics to it such as a bim, sounder/gps anchor winch (Lazy i know) and have kitted it up with the
Yammie 60 4 banga.

Mate this little rocket is built to fish so i'm looking forward to getting it in the next couple of weeks.

Gotta give a couple of boys a plug. Firstly Michael and Tony at MY Marine, these guys were very helpful and gave me great customer service.
And Manny from all about finance. If you want a boat talk to this guy and he will make it happen.

I will post some pics when i pick it up.

Steve

I personally like the Surtees a hellova lot, although there's a BIG differnece between the 4.85 & the 610 BC.
The BC is basically an offshore boat, & whilst the 4.85 Surtees should be ok if yer careful it's definitely not my choice if I were anticipating heading offshore on a regular basis.
As a general bay/estury/light offshore rig is should be bloody good though.
They are generally very well built & good solid, reliable, safe boats.
I'm sure you'll enjoy fishing from it for a great many years.

Bill.

Here a a couple of picks of the Surtees.

The reason that i went with the 4.85 over the 610 Bar Crusher was because i have been fishing around the Bay for only the past 8 years and i have my spots for Snapper, squid, whiting and Flatties. I have been offshore only twice in that time and wouldn't really bother going through the heads in my boat.

As far as the ride goes the Surtees is better than the Barcrusher by a mile. I have been out in both boats a couple of times and i can tell you that the ride on the Surtees smashes the crusher. Finish on the crusher is much better than surtees. If anyone doubts me, have a ride in both and make your own mind up.

The 60 Yammie really did surprise me. the power is plenty for the 4.85. If i was fishing with 3 in the boat on a regular basis i would have gone for the 70 Yammie. All in all im pretty impressed with the whole package.
