Where to put console!! Opinions/Suggestions
G'day everyone, it's been a hell of a long time since I've been here life's been busy and haven't done much fishing in a long time but thought it'd be a good place to come for opinions.
So here's my dilemma !! I've built a 4 mm plate alloy barra style boat and have had it in the backyard now for about 6 months and I'm just about ready to put the motor on it. Now for 6 months I've been umming and arrring as to where to put the console Centre or Side ?
The boat is 4.9 long and beam is 2.0
Favourite fishing is trolling north east tout lakes such as Dart and Eucumbene but also like getting in the river for Cod and yellas. Very rarely fish the salt.
Hopefully can get a photo of the boat on here so you can see what I'm looking at!
So my question to you all is where would you put the console ??
All opinions advice and educated suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
TBH
Ok I put a photo up of the boat but the console in the picture has been modified by taking 180mm of the width and 100mm of the height

G'day Mick, nah have no plans of sleeping in the boat at all.
I'll also add that the majority of fishing will be 2 people trolling 4 rods out the back of boat.
So have you got a suggestion
Cheers TBH

put it to one side, put against the gunnel.
This way you can secure it properly to the gunnel for extra strength
Also you don't waste both sides of the floor. You can have mounts around the side and front of the console to put your rods\gaf\net etc and is easy to walk around it.

I'd put it centre back. Why?
1. Chops up on the lake and you've got to cross, better ride than up front.
2. More room up front for any casting work under bow mount electric power.
3. Closer to the rods when trolling.
4. More storage options as far as weight distribution goes.

Plus one for centre. Rides as good one up as it does with 4 on board.

Re: Where to put console!! Opinions/Suggestions
What the picture of the boat doesn't show is that there is now a deck 600 mm deep at the back of the boat with an engine well which had to go in due to motor size so putting console to the centre back doesn't leave much floor space at all and I don't really do any casting from the front virtually all fishing will be done from the rear.

I say middle of the deck space from each side and just slightly forward of the centre so when your sitting in the boat your weight is in the centre of the boat
Why?
the boat it equal and balanced in weight,
can move around it,
boat gets up on plane better
have rod holders attached to it so they easy to access and don't have to move up the front to grab a rod
anyways that's my 2 bits
