Tohatsu motors

Has anyone had any experience with tohatsu motors? (approx. 50hp)
If so are they any good?

When i was shopping for a motor few years ago,the info i picked up that they were popular northen states and a good motor.
To many boats kayak, helicopter , catch a fish,catch a fish

Great motors, Mercs 2 strokes 40hp and below are re branded Tohatsus.

I've got a 2005 tohatsu 15hp that's yet to give me any problems, even running on fuel that's been sitting for 3-4 months.

I did a bit of research on them before I bought the boat coz I'd never heard of them and only real negatives were a pretty poor after sales service in aus when bought new.
They got a pretty good rep for being your basic tough as nails outboard and apparently are pretty widely used by surf clubs and pro fishermen for their durability.

And as has already been said, most of the smaller Japanese mercs are just rebadged tohatsu's.

Some of the very new Tohatu's are re-badged Honda outboards ...

5 years without a problem from my 25 hp 2st. It's a tohatsu in disguise (mariner)

I think tohatsu is actually owned by nissan.

correct, tohatsu is owned by Nissan, no rebranding, they make the the smaller mercuries !

tohatsu get a great rap mate. surf life savers use em all through-out australia.
