Anchor winch test s***fight

Post by nmgar » Tue Jun 27, 2017 10:06 am

I am considering getting an anchor winch for the new boat and when I googled anchor winch comparison I found that trailerboat's John Willis did one earlier this month which has sparked some uproar, particularly from Stressfree.

Ive got a lonestar winch and ive very happy with it.

They were going to charge me 1000 to put it in.

I put the wires in myself in 4 hrs and forum member nude up worked out the centering off the winch for me with his maths and engering skills.

I wired up a remote for it so now I can operate the winch off the beach.

Which one do you have Mick?

I'm considering a GX1 as my boat will be 5.2m

I had a stress free on my last boat with freefall worked great but was expensive. My current boat has a capstan which I don't like, the lone star looks a good bit of kit if I had some spare cash I would fit one of them.

We have a Savwinch (not sure which model) on a 5.25m aluminium and we haven't had any issues.

Did you watch the video? I didn't hear any opinion expressed by the journo at all; it seemed to be a presentation of test results only to me.

Of course i did. I wouldn't share my opinion without watching the video and reading the articles.

The other link says that the one winch company had organised the test and the other winches were bought. Even though it presented test results, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

The internet these days.. I could buy all of the winches mentioned organise a test and make whichever one i want fail and whichever one i want to do well. You wont know what i do behind the scenes.

the best thing is to actually talk to people that own the winches you are looking at and have put them to use in the real world and get their opinions.

By the way I own a Haines Hunter.
