This would happen at anchor in 15 metres of water then pass, or when I was scanning the bottom. Thought it was seaweed caught on the transducer, but it wasn't. Dam annoying.

Played with the settings, but nothing seemed to fix the issue.

So I updated the software in the unit.

I know a fella with the same unit and has had plenty of trouble with his doing similar. He turns it off and on again the problem goes away, till it happens again. He resolved his issue by buying a furuno. It's not a problem with your settings. If it's under warranty take it back with the above photo as proof of malfunction.

I have an hds5 that sometimes does weird things too and I resolve it with the off/on.

I am looking at getting a Furuno, maybe next year. It is not under warranty as it came with the boat. Hopefully the soft ware upgrade works

If I didn't live on a hill, Id say to bring it round and I'll have a play with it. Firstly restore it to default and go from there.
