If I was chasing a combo unit id go the hummingbird. If I wanted 2 sounders I'd go lowrance 7 inch for maps and furuno 627 for sounding.

I'll certainly check them out Slinga and see where they sit with the budget :thumbsup:slinga wrote:Lowrance- American made designed for freshwater.
Furuno- Japanese made designed for saltwater. All the pros/tuna fisherman use them.

The guys I am dealing with are also a Hummingbird dealer, so that is definitely something I am already considering.ducky wrote:If I was chasing a combo unit id go the hummingbird. If I wanted 2 sounders I'd go lowrance 7 inch for maps and furuno 627 for sounding.
It has been along time since I bought my old unit (Lowrance). I'm starting to realise that it has become like buying a new TV…or even a new toothbrush……it's hard to find out which ones just clean your teeth among all the other ones with the ergonomic non-slip handles, triple acting bristles and tonsil cleaners

do you know if it is the 5.7 or the 7? Mick….the 7 is a smidge outside the budget, but the smaller unit is around the same price as the other units mentioned. Was looking for the 7inch screen, but just wondering if I could live with the smaller one.barra mick wrote:My fishing mate has a furuno...I agree they are a good unit.
Hasn't bothered me in other aspects of life

Re: Lowrance Elite Series Sounder / Plotter Advice
I always preferred garmins maps to lowrance. I have a foruno 585 ripper sounder, my chartplotter is a navman 6600 which hopefully this year I will replace for a garmin 750. My mate had a lowrance hds8 kept getting water through the canopies next minute hds stopped working it was replaced under warranty
