Garmin Echomap plus 95SV???

Post by Daryl » Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:21 pm

Hi guys, in the market for a new combo unit around the $1500 mark and chasing some advice.

I've researched so many different brands and models that I think I'm completely head f#cked!!
Best unit I can come up with is the Garmin Echomap plus 95SV. So just seeing if anyone has one of these,
or can recommend a better unit in that price range.

I have a 4.8mt savage ospray and mainly fish the bay - Geelong, Portarlington and Queensclif. Maybe offshore a little bit with some more experience.

Fish - Gummys, Whitting, Squid and flathead.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Lowrance elite 7 are apparently not to bad either. I’d go with either one if it was me personally. Think only bad thing about the Garmin is it only has one SD card slot, otherwise you couldn’t fault it. Good screen size too.

Old man has last years 95sv and to be honest, out of the box it ***** on the gen 1 Hds it replaced, and the standard charts on the unit are as good as the old cmap/navman chartplotter. They're not navionics sonarcharts detail, but you can turn on quickdraw which uses the sonar to write heavily detailed contours of the area you're at if you want that level of detail. Easy to use and navigate, the plus model is even easier with the touchscreen. This is off Mornington last week, knowing him it's all set to auto and is only the 2d screen (he has nfi how to read down or side imaging nor the desire to screw around with much)

Oh and check out John Willis' video I think it's on the trailer boat page on facebook. Did a little on water run through with the Garmin rep on the echomap plus in his v15

Thanks, bowl Aron and cobby, you have confirmed what I thought about the 95sv.

Hopefully be breaking the bank soon and purchase one.

Thanks again
