yeah thanks is good info.
I am thinking of trying brooks jetty near st kilda next week. Has anyone fished there?
I thought putting my question here would save opening another thread and I found it using google earth

on another forum i am on the mod/admin can sticky tape a useful post that someone has made so whenever some one clicks on the page it comes up. An example someone could make a useful post about redfin so where he made the post evrey time someone clicks on the topic that post will come up. i think you should do that with the post about finding new spots so all new members can see this.

I've found using google maps and then the satellite view good... to scan about for roads and access points, that many people would drive by without thinking of... and then look up utube as mentioned, see what else I can find, look at maps etc for futher info... property searches for farmers names etc, and a polite phone call and ask if they mind you accessing thier land to go fishing...

I've found some of the harder places to acess the better places to fish.. cos other don't go there.

(but that Oil Rig company down at Toora way, still wont let me go fish that ruddy long deep water pier!!! grrrr!)

I think the third item on Woolies list is the one most overlooked. There are spots I've fished locally over a number of years that are very tide/time/time of year dependent.
Big squid at sorrento pier is a good example, took me an age to work it out, but got there in the end, whiting from the same spot, took a while to work out, but once you do, you can score some good fish. Couta boat club in sorrento, great whiting spot if you know when to fish it. Gunners took me two years to figure out what was what..the list goes on, you simply cannot go to a spot and expect it to happen, put in the time, work through your tides and times until you figure it out.

With hot temperatures it's going to be hard fishing between all the swimmers !!!

Was going to try anywhere from Somers to Point Leo but with all the campers, not sure now

Anyone tried in recent days ?

Ive been to Balnarring and Somers in the last few weeks and if you go early morning (5am - 9am) then all you get is locals walking their dogs and people swimming horses who are generally quite nice anyway and normally stop for a chat

no it took him two to realise he's gotta wind it back in.

When river fishing, I look for a good fast section of water in to a good pool, or the calmer slower running side of the river. Most hold fish. MeppsTas has taught me alot! But when lake fishing, just cast anywhere really. lol
