New Landbased Spots for Spring
Been fishing mainly around the piers on the Mornington Peninsula, and doing the odd trip out to Flinders pier instead here and there. Mt Martha rocks is always a nice change of pace and very very safe unless the rocks are slippery given that there's usually no swell/surf unless the wind is howling.
I'd love the opportunity to target something different, but I'm unsure about where to go. Watching videos on YouTube, a lot of the landbased fishing tends to be focused on piers, or estuary/sand flats fishing a little further up north.
Short of driving to Lakes Entrance etc, is there somewhere on the peninsula I could safely try my hand at fishing for something a little bigger? I'd love to give "proper" rock fishing a crack, but also am very wary of going with mates who are just as unexperienced. Any general suggestions would be great!

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
This time of year til probably Sept, try to hunt for aussie salmon off rocks and beaches. Gunnamatta, back beaches and 90 mile beach can produce 1-2 kg aussie salmon and gummies.
Oct-Nov you can get big snapper off mt martha rocks.

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
I'm not quite sure myself - I mean any slightly bigger reds, flatties, or even if I could get onto some snook that'd be fantastic. Most of my fish that I've caught I'd say are just around legal size, nothing to scream home about. If I was to be very ambitious, it'd be amazing to get a kingfish bahaha.Lightningx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:05 pmSomething a little bigger, what would you like to target mate?

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
Would I need to brave some rough weather to really have a crack, or is it something that can be done in relatively calm conditions?Lightningx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:59 pmYep november around Mt Martha/ Martha cove for some very big reds lb

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
What kind of gear would I need to prep in order to do that?
My longer rods are both for egi, which I assume would snap almost immediately if I tried to get a red onto them haha. My other rod is a 702MFS Daiwa Aird X, but I've been eye-ing off the 9' model as well.

Was only using a light Sp rod so no way was I going to try lifting the dam thing up!

My mate and I have caught them in all kinds of weather around there.whambamsam wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 1:55 amWould I need to brave some rough weather to really have a crack, or is it something that can be done in relatively calm conditions?Lightningx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:59 pmYep november around Mt Martha/ Martha cove for some very big reds lb
I remember slightly rough choppy nights and some very calm nights as well and have caught them in both conditions at that time of the year
