I watched his videos however, it is all about lire fishing and I want to do bait fishing.

Still haven't worked up the courage to lure fish.

Never fished the lake, but drove past it last weekend and did a spot of fishing in one of the tributaries. As usual, plenty of small trout about, but couldn't find the much bigger fish I had sighted in the early summer, so had to be content with harvesting 30kg+ of venison. Often see a car or two parked on the west side of the lake, presumably they fish that side from the bank.

Mudeyes under a float and worms on the bottom will do the trick

Rob Alexander is the guru on freshwater fishing in the North East of Victoria and is based at Wangaratta I believe.
He writes regularly for Vic Fishing Monthly , is very knowledgable and widely respected.

Buffalo is mostly famous for a lot of small redfin and not much else. Pretty lake though and some nice cod in the river below the dam.

Thank you every one for the advice.

I got to the lake at around 4:30pm yesterday and had purchased some worms from one of the local fishing shops.

We found a nice shaded area that made being outside a little more bearable. We set up camp there with the first rod going in the water on a running sinker with long shank at the end and the next one was a paternoster rig with a circle hook coming off the middle.

Around an hour of snacking we finally seen one of the rod tips move a little bit which is always exciting when you go to a new fishing spots as it give you that little bit of reassurance that just maybe you made the right choice of picking the spot you are sitting in.

A few false alarms later and launching out of my chair i had my first fish on the hook, pulled in a little reddie (Caught on running sinker).

30-40 minutes later i had the next rod bouncing up and down and as i yanked the rod up i was sure i lost the fish and so I reeled with disappointment knowing i lost that little sucker only to discover that there was a little reddie sucking on the end of the hook (Caught on paternoster)

The third and last fish was caught right at the end while we were leaving which was probably the biggest reddie of the day (Caught on paternoster).

All 3 reddies went back into the water however, what do you consider to be a good eating size for reddies?

Its been a big year for me with fresh water fishing, I had been talking on the forums for years about never catching a fresh water fish and I finally caught reddies and carp so in my books im winning.

If anyone is heading down to lake buffalo or has any questions please let me know.

Happy fishing!! :water:
