That's why I fish for whiting with 60lb leader and a 10kg rod

I was bait fishing at tortoise head a couple years ago (catching whiting, yakka, mullet, salmon and the like) using my light gear, and I got a thumping 4 foot gummy who must have came into the weed banks seeing what was going on...smile0784 wrote:While whiting fishing how many times do people catch gummys?
Only time that has ever happened, and was AWESOME on the light gear.
But no, the outfit I run is intended for the targeted species (as I assume most people do) just because a big dirty skate may come along doesn't mean I should be geared up to handle it when it does. I just do my best to get it in and if not i cut my losses.
