LB Pinkies

Post by bilby » Wed Apr 05, 2017 9:53 pm

This year's summer mulloway run never eventuated for me, so after going out many times in the past few months, with almost every session ending fishless, I was pleasantly surprised this week to find myself unexpectedly in the middle of a run of decent pinkies. The first few fish caught me off guard, and failed to hook up with the 3/0 circle hooks I was using, but eventually I managed to hook a nice 35cm fish. At one point I had a fish strip line from the baitrunner at a rate of knots, only for it to drop the bait before I could flick over the drag lever. I'm finding that bait runners aren't so good for smaller pinkies - at least with circle hooks - as there isn't enough pressure to hook the fish before they get the bait. Have others found this?
Anyway, after the first fish was in the bag, the hits came one a cast for about an hour and a half. I managed to land 5 in total, with the two biggest fish going 38 and 42cm (800gm and 1kg).

Great catch
-I wouldn't bother with the bait runner function and just leave the reel in gear.

Nice to know many are enjoying the pinkies.

My booty tonight after giving away the rest of my cala bag....I just needed some bait for the weekend.

Tonight's total: 9 pinkies and 10 cala.
