I guess they're afraid of infected prawns being used as bait and passing on the disease to wild prawns. Dunno what the likelihood of that happening is but it is probably better to stay on the safe side because crustaceans are an important part of the marine food chain and giving them some disease wouldn't be doing any favours to the bigger fish that rely on them

Re: ADVISE FOR LAND BASED FISHING
Keep in mind gummies thrash about a lot so you have to be careful using two hook rigs. As the tide flow changes you may have to change sinkers. Thats one advantage of the ezi rig, but then there is no reason you cant use a clip or loop on the end of a paternoster to make changing sinkers easy. Use a good strong leader as gummies roll up the line and their skin is abraisive.guwop1017 wrote:Seems banana prawns are the way to go for the area. What rigs tend to work better down there?
If they roll up the line and break off they will be wrapped in line and slowly garrote themselves. I once caught a gummy that had previously done this and it looked a mess and would not have lasted much longer

Re: ADVISE FOR LAND BASED FISHING
On a seperate note I am looking for a productive land based spot to fish over the weekend and hopefully catch some flatties or whiting. Ive seen members mention cunningham pier and sorrento, was wondering if anyone can vouch for these or suggest anything better and also the preferred tides for the area. Thanks

My advice is read the above topics and obtain a copy of the Landbased Fishing guide for Port Phillip and Corio bays.
