Re: Carp help
G'day Taleb,
My personal favourite which I use weightless on a 4 pound line is a Size 8, Daiichi 1330 Dry Fly Hook. Black Bug hooks are also great.
Tight Lines

Re: Carp help
If you need / want distance on your cast but want unweighted use a cube of ice, enough weight to cast and will melt when in the water so the rig will become weightless.

Re: Carp help
use trebles. carp has soft mouth which rips off easily. If you use trebles, you have better chance of landing them.Taleb wrote:Lol, hooks confuse me. I use the big ones for snapper, think they're size 3? and for garfish, mullet etc. I use size 1, the tiny hooks. So something in between should do? And also would live worms be better than corn?

Re: Carp help
Could anyone rattle off some good spots to target carp?
Haven't fished for them/ accidentally caught one before. After reading this
discussion it seems like it could be a bit of fun. Or a bit frustrating? Wait and see i suppose.

gardiner's creek. This is a long creek from Box Hill to Burwood, Glen Iris, Malvern ends up in Yarra - basically anywhere there is a pool on the creek.

Re: Carp help
Agreed 20 pound fish plus in there used to walk down there with a few cans and a rod and have a ball not sure about carp being smart enough to spit the bait I used running sinker and they almost all the time hook em self some times nearly taking the rod in if forgot the drag was spooled plenty of times on light gear and got 1 fish went 10.6 kg on my snapper gear but you can't stop them on the light stuff most of the fish are 1 to 3 kg give it a go . Corn or worms worked for me .rogs wrote:it depends where you are........Cherry lake in Altona got heaps of Carp
