Please help!! good spot for fishing/camping trip
Hi all fairly novice fisherman here. Planning a trip with mates in late Jan next year for 3/4 nights camping/fishing. Got decent gear but looking for any suggestions on great lakes/rivers in Victoria. Happy to drive a while but yeah looking for a nice spot, any ideas people? Any help is greatly appreciated

What kind of gear and what kind of fishing do you want to do?

Lakes entrance is really nice. Also any of the surrounding towns like Paynesville, Metung, Tyabb.. heaps of great fishing opportunities and only 3.5hrs from Melbourne.

Between us we have enough gear for anything small river/lake inland stuff. We dont have a boat. Looking for some spots that would be pretty forgiving and nice around mid to late jan.

Fishing may not be the most fantastic, but have a look at Aysuns Reserve near Elmore, its on the Campaspe river has toilet facilities, camping is free and it could be a good base to work from.

There's good camping on the Buckland River near Porepunkah, Ovens River between Bright and Harriettville and the Kiewa River in the next valley. Depends if you want facilities or not. The Ovens was fishing well when I was there in November. Otherwise, if you want saltwater, there's plenty of options in Gippsland. Cape Conran has basic facilities and is a great spot.
Check out the Parks Vic website, heaps of info on there.

Re: Please help!! good spot for fishing/camping trip
It's about a 4 hour drive but free camping at teddington top reservoir (dry) and the bottom reservoir has some big trout in it! It's near a small town called Stuart mill.
The loddon river has some nice campsites with facilities but you'd find most are rv friendly so isolation would be uncommon..
I also spent New Years last year along big river around enochs point. The further u drive the quieter it is it was an awesome place the best campsites are 4b accessible only a lot of trout and blackfish here

If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!

I recently camped at Forrest in the otways. Decent dog friendly campsite and its a 20min walk to lake Elizabeth. Didn't catch anything there though, tbh i wasn't really trying because I'm a novice at freshwater.

The murray is always good, around cobram i find a good spot for fishing. Lots of small cod and a chance at some bigger ones and some yellas/silvers.
its only a 2.5hour drive as well and don't really need a 4b just take your time on the tracks and you'll probably have to backtrack a bit haha.
