Hi guys,
i'm totally new to fishing
was given an old Shakespear Firebird rod 7ft + 3kg line? by a friend
Will be at Cape Paterson this weekend and would like to try out rock fishing (1st attempt)
1. what fish should I expect? I read online they say mullet & salmon but I guess mullet is more appropriate for me and my set up?
2. what kind of rig? size of sinker? bait or lure? which one?
Can anyone let me know please thank you very much

You might need a longer rod for rock fishing, was thinking something 12ft upwards and a simple double drop rig with 4oz sinker to keep ground. Size 2/0 hook will get you most reefy fish and bring a small variety of bait such as squid, pippi, pilchard, chicken etc... you might struggle to land fish off rocks with a 7ft n your 3kg line wont stand a chance against rock abrasion. Anyway goodluck, remember to be safe around these areas, go with a friend and let family know where your fishing.
