Land Based Salmon

Post by FishSamFish » Thu Oct 17, 2013 5:39 pm

Just asking, anyone seen / heard of any salmon in the bay land based/pier recently, with the weather, I have a near zero chance of getting squid up north and might look for salmon, any around stkilda, lagoon, kerferd, brighton or sandi?

I went for a visit to altona peir on Tuesday, in the evening they were catching a few salmon on bait, i reckon there's also a good chance of a snapper because there were over 100 boats within 300m of that peir, all were fishing for snapper

Even a whippy 7ft rod throwing 20 to 30g slugs will do the trick , if your a good caster; otherwise a 9ft rod is pretty much the standard size for flicking metals slugs about on a surf beach.

i see the old greeks out from 3 am till sunrise catching salmon under a float with bits of chicken or blue bait. i havent had much luck on them lately with the lures. but then again i havent tried to catch them with lures much yet this year.

I usually pick up a few using metals off Lagoon Pier. Got a biggun over a kilo there a couple of weeks ago.
