Talking to a convert

Post by Wolly Bugger » Wed Jul 31, 2013 7:33 pm

Headed back to Gunna today, dropped in at the shop only to be told that it was firing and that I should be there now. So cutting conversation short, we headed to Gunna.

Whilst we were setting up, others arrived and hurried off down the beach. We casually ambled along tossing lures every so often without a hook up. We walked towards Cape Schank without scoring a hit. As it started to get dark we ambled back towards the car park, when we suddenly hooked up landing 2 and loosing a few others, eventually we reach the first bait fisho and he was doing well.

We ended up staying a while between the bait fisho and another lure caster. We had fun hooking up, but sadly loosing a few in the wash, but still managed to land a few more and let others go.

Eventually we reached the lure caster and got talking to him, unlike us he stayed in one spot and as I talked to him he said that up until a few weeks ago he was a bait fisho, until saw us younger blokes doing reasonably well with the lure casting so he switched over to lure casting and was enjoying it.

It is much more fun than bait soaking on a beach!

I've had much more success bait soaking (watching spinners around not getting much) until last weekend when my spot was littered with weed and kelp and just before I packed up to go home (an hour after I came) I put a lure on my light rod and walked up to where there seemed to be less weed on the surface. Landed 4 good sized fish and lost 2 in about 5-6 minutes LOL. The lure I used I never had before, so I might go back for an hour or two on the w/end with couple of those and just flick around with a bum bag around my waist instead of carrying 2 rods, 2 rod holders, esky and the backpack.

Lure fishing in the surf is much more fun.. and you cover more area as opposed to waiting for the fish to come to you..

No leaderboard fish wooly?

9' spinning rod, 4000 size reel, 5kg braid. 5 or 600mm of flouro leader to a snap swivel, or just run braid straight through.
Job done.
