shallow inlet salmon

Post by matty_rotten » Thu Jul 21, 2016 9:08 pm

Fished shallow inlet the other day and the salmon are definitely in. Started trolling about an hour befor low tide and we picked up our first salmon within the first 5 mins and for the next two hours or so it was on, roughly landing 20-30 salmon we lost count and keeping 8. All were pretty good size the smallest would have been arounf 30cm the biggest a bit over 50cm. All were caught on rogue 12cm jerkshad soft plastics in chilly white and on light gear which was really fun.
It was also the first time iv taken my old man out fishing. And his first fish he has caught in 15years or so was a 50cm salmon. Not a bad effort.

Nice work mate . Old man would have been over the moon.
I want to take mine out soon. I miss going fishing with him.

Looks like a a polycraft 4.1 boat you are in.

Yeah i know the boat reasonably well as i own a smartwave 4200.
How big is your trolling motor 55lb? And what size battery.
Im just setting mine up with a 55lb 120ah battery and hoping it will have enough juice to keep me in position.

Hi Purple5ive,
I've got 105Ah with a 55lb on a Stacer Outlaw 4.5, I take it by holding position you mean anchor lock?? If so I get about 10-15 hours depending on wind and current. Trolling I'd get about 6-10 hours again depending on wind and current, some days into a strong breeze it won't even move forward lol.

Nice catch of salmon.

Cheers Jeff

Thanks jeff,
Yes anchor mode on the motorguide to be specific. i guess being a heavier and bigger boat yours will take a bit more juice to keep going. those numbers look quite promising indeed.
mattys boat although being 10cm smaller than mine weighs about 20 -30 kg more, im not sure what the outlaw weighs but id say will be heavier than mine which is 220kgs hull only

cheers
