Tried to be encouraging towards the young fella or fellas but admittedly the frequency of obscure posts has increased a lot lately.

Look, maybe it's not relevant, but have we just assumed Fishon4reel is a young fella? I can't recall seeing his age mentioned anywhere.

Quite a few did yes.
Which ones matched.
Should have just deleted it straight away I think in those instances?

I'd be more worried about the older members that have dropped off

I'd be concerned about , , , , everyone.

Yes compassion, also respect and understanding.

Yes there are kids here , , , , Matari a classic example, a great kid and a great member.

But what about:
*The member who is going through a Divorce.
*The member who is being made redundant and worried about how he is going to pay his bills.
*Sadly and unfortunately, some members are probably fighting terminal illness.
*The list goes on to infinitude.

We are all here, all kinds of "us", so lets do as Wolly said Compassionate , , , , even respectful and understanding.

As far as the kids , , , , lets not jump the gun on trolls and get these kids caught up in our over-exuberant rebutting.
If you think a profile is a troll , , , , ignore it , , , , simplzzzz

Who's left now?
Give it some time and it is going to be not many if we keep going the way we are, just look at the other Fishing Forums on how they have gone.

A few years ago, there was a new member who started posting and nobody commented on his posts, Something in the way he wrote and what he said made me think he was in trouble.

I messaged him and yes he was in trouble going through a separation/divorce at the time, he felt that because nobody on the forum responded to his posts about fishing, he was being ignored. Little did he understand that people will usually post a reply if they are interested in the topic.

Nowhere in his posts did he mention his private life and the issues that he had.

After I contacted him, he replied and we swapped a few messages until his crisis was over.

So it pays sometimes to be careful and yes the younger ones can be a pain the backside, but not as big a pain as some of the long term members at times.

It's a fishing forum. Not a popularity contest.
If people have an interest in the topic they will comment.

This place has lost the plot. No wonder reports don't get posted. The older members posted facts. The new members want a new fish icon for posts made...

Wow....

As for people going through problems... big deal...
Everyone has issues.
You can't walk on eggshells and make sure everyone feels loved. It's not under 8s footy...

Grow up
