Casting action cam

Post by JS270 » Wed Aug 14, 2013 7:03 am

Thanks to Ryan we were able to get a better perspective on the casting from the past weekend. You will see with the threadline how to wrap the line around the blank to reduce the slap that you get when trying to hold the line with the index finger, Wit the overhead we see that with the reel tuned properly there is no contact of the spool until the end when the sinker has touched down.

Hope this is of interest :D

Cast around Port melbourne on Mondays and Thursdays normally but having a few issues with mum so everything is mucked up.
Will be heading down that way on the weekend as Mum is in Frankston hospital so may be able to meet up for a quick fish or casting session.

How far was the threadline guy, 1st in the video, casting? Interesting technique with the line wrapped around the rod. Might be pretty standard, but I've never seen it LOL.

Ryan hit 115 + meters with a 2 oz and a best distance of 134 meters with the 100 gram , great effort for his first ever attempt : - )

I have a stupid question about this. I'm spinning surf beaches with a 9ft Catana and 30-45g lures. I feel like i'm not casting more than 55-60 metres at the most. Like at the absolute most.

Would a 12 foot rod make a significant different (i'm a big fit guy and the weight doesn't bother me) or is it a case of using a heavier weight to get the extra distance?

Dougie ,

What you need to do is match the weight being cast to the power of the rod and then get some simple technical tips , with the Catana and 45 gram sinker you should be getting closer to the 100 meter mark. The longer rod will assist but before spending money you should come down so we can give you a few tips. Mark found a few simple things made an immediate improvement for him.

Thanks for the response. I usually fish with a 30-45 so that works. i should probably go down and measure it on the footy oval before i make assumptions about how far it's going i guess.

I'll get down someday, time is an issue for me at the moment

Maybe, what time are you thinking?

If i do show do i just bring a 45g lure with no hooks on or do i need something else?
