Surf Fishing in Torquay

Hi,
I'm new to the Torquay area, and i've heard the gummy fishing is pretty good! What's the fishing like along whites beach? I was thinking about spinning for salmon up to point danger, and maybe wet a few lines in up there. Or am i best to hang out at fisherman's beach or Jan Juc?
I'm not asking for secret spots or anything, just a point in the right direction. I am kinda new to the beach fishing thing too... So any friendly tips would be much appreciated....
