Fairhaven is quite a plain beach with not many gutters at high tide, however, it does drop off as do most of the beaches along that stretch, If bait fishing I have a always done best at low tide just on dusk or after dark, the reason being is that at low tide you can cast into where the beach drops off, I have done best with pipi marinated in tune oil and brown suger as well as pilchard. If spinning then you could fish both high and low tide preferably 2 hours either side of the change, burley is essential as it is a shallow beach, the area right at the elbow of the headland has a permanent deep hole and always seems to hold Salmon.

Thanks so much for all the info guys. If it's a shallow beach is there more of a productive beach I should be trying? Keep the tips coming I am writing them all down. It's all taken on board

Surf poppers are very effective as well. I highly recommend you take some with you when bait Fishing :thumbsup:

Yep forgot about them.
Put popper on top hook and bait on the bottom

Unless there's sand crabs about, in which case popper on the bottom, bait on top.

Yea true I have experienced that before. Otherwise will lose your bait a lot on the bottom.

Hut gully is a fairly good spot to try, but fairhaven is still a good option

I got a couple of 50cm fish at 13th beach this morning on a white Halco Outcast, and later on at Bancoora I chatted to some blokes who had picked up a few in the morning. Once the sun was up the fish disappeared though.

yeah they go deeper water once sun light hits, pick an overcast weather should get better chance.
