Opinions on Breakaway Cannon please.

Post by Whiskers » Tue May 30, 2017 12:13 pm

In recent times I've been having problems due to arthritis in my hand and not being able to securely trap the line with my fingers when surf casting.

The end result is weak casts, misdirected casts and sliced fingers.

I have tried using a finger stool and a glove but I don't feel comfortable with them.

I'm looking for something to make life easier and I have been looking at the Breakaway Cannon.

Has anyone used one and how effective have you found it?

TIA, Whiskers.

Are you talking about the compressed air things? Glorified potato cannon? Those are classed as a weapon in Victoria I'm pretty sure

LOL Basti.

The potato cannon would be a lot of fun but the device I'm talking about is nothing like that.

I'm adding a photo of it plus a YouTube clip that explains it.

the breakaway looks impressive Whiskers, but then so does this! The Breakaway maybe easier to use without the extra stuff to lug down to the beach.

:)

There is a post on here somewhere about it, the designer even joined and commented on the thread.
I'm not at home, but will see if I can find it later when I am.

Saves fingers....

If you face challenges holding the rod and cast it hard, this will not help your casting distance.

Sorry, it wasn't the breakaway cannon, that you have posted about.

It was the cast master, anyway, here is the thread

Thanks Brett for looking up that post.

I did look into one of those devices but thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

Whiskers ,

If you are located in Melbourne I am happy to meet up and show you a few hints that can improve your casting without outlaying any money on items to be fitted to the rod.

Though in regards to the breakaway cannon these are good if you are intending casting heavier leads though they are a little bit more fiddly when setting up each cast.

Regards
