If you really want to get serious about catching fish from the surf you need to be able to read a beach for gutters and holes. I suggest stopping along the way to see if there are any decent gutters or holes. The last few times Ive been in the area there has been a cpl of decent gutters out the front of Moggs creek. Caught salmon and mullet there and maybe a chance of a gummy or jewie if you fish into the night. Eastern view is one of my favorite salmon spots but its totally dependent on gutter formations.

Lorne pier is good for variety but you'l need a long net if you catch anything decent sized.
