Re: Surf rod
My 2 go to surf combo's is my Ugly Stick Gold and Penn Prevail.
I have the Ugly Stick Paired with the Shimano Aerlex and the Prevail with the Spinfisher V2.
Ugly Stick is extremely sturdy, heavier but also better at casting heavier sinkers.
Prevail would have to be my pick of the bunch, i know others have had problems with them in the past but they are light and strong and can almost flick cast with them all day, the long handle makes it a breeze.
The Ugly Stick is half the price though, was when i bought it anyway so that's definitely something worth considering..
My brother in law who i fish with on the regular uses BCF's Shimano Aerowave Graphite 3 Piece Combo with the Aerlex 8000, it was around 230 Retail but he got it a little cheaper on special.. He loves it, just another option..

Re: Surf rod
I have a Penn Prevail MODEL # PPS106259SP line 5-9 / 3.20 mtr.. It's a light duty version which is a killer on whiting / trevally ect from the beach, I'm very happy with it the build quality seems to be holding up, the shrink wrap on the handles took me while to get used to seeing most of my other rods have EVA grips.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS !

Re: Surf rod
Sorry to hijack your thread bowl but i'm thinking of selling my Ugly Stick, I just don't use it anymore with the PENN Prevail getting preference, probably been used twice, its paired with a near new PENN Spinfisher and top spooled 200m with 40lb Braid, if anyone's interested.. I'll take $150 for the lot - in Essendon.
