GF the most productive time to fish is 'usually' from utter first light until the sun hits the water. 7 is about mid session at the moment. The further you walk the less surfers and other fisho's and idiots asking you 'did you catch those fish' you'll get.

Quick poll: is first light better fishing than high tide? Eg if high tide is 10:30am would it be better to fish a couple of hours either side or first light regardless of tide?

Dawn/dusk. Low Swell. High Tide. Hi Baro Stiff N NE or E wind. Moonrise (moonrise is experimental re salmon but absoltuely effective on squid)

Venus bays pretty good, i put Melbourne to gunnamatta on google maps and says 2:25min and Melbourne to Venus bay is 2:06min...I've never experienced salmon fishing of the surf like Venus bay but gunnamatta is definitely good I've done very well there also.
