16lb YGK, seems to go alright. Probably not as good value as when I bought it thanks to the exchange rates now.

I use 10lb and 20lb Sunline Super PE depending on which reel I use and where I'm fishing. 20lb has a bit more "oomph" to pull out from snags if needed

I wouldn't know how far to be honest. I don't give it absolutely everything but I guess maybe 70m give or take. I'm sure if I really got into proper form with casting I'd get more distance but at the same time I've never felt like my rod is going to break haha.

You're going to cast further with a 12 foot but will pay the price after about an hour unless you are superbly conditioned. Sometimes I spin with a 13 foot nitro surf messiah and quickly remember why my 9's are so good.Tackleberry wrote:so as the op i should post my distance average of 5 cast's is 111m

i count winds of the handle and am probably at around 80m on average. need a good tailwind to get the 100m. need to hit the gym lolducky wrote:I wouldn't know how far to be honest. Your surf spin is weird though, feels more like a squid rod.ducky wrote:I wouldn't know how far to be honest. I don't give it absolutely everything but I guess maybe 70m give or take. Re: how far can you cast with a 9' rod and a 40g slug
Yeah it's a pretty slow rod. Definitely the slowest rod I own by a long shot.
It took a bit of getting used to. I used to try and punch out casts and all I'd end up with is tip wraps and other gay shite. So I slowed it up. Let the rod load a bit on the back cast then just slowly accelerate through the cast.
Hell it does the job and it weighs SFA so I have no issue with it. It's rated to 2.5oz
For the record my squid rod is a broomstick in comparison haha.

Re: how far can you cast with a 9' rod and a 40g slug
I would be happy with 111mtrs haha. I reckon I am only pushing 60-70mtrs. I should really work on that. Ah well.Tackleberry wrote:so as the op i should post my distance average of 5 cast's is 111m
