What Tackle Bag/Backpack so you use?

Post by GONE FISHING » Sat Jan 30, 2016 4:30 pm

Been a while since I got back on the surf. Being time poor has meant fishing the bay as it's alot closer but about a month ago I went out with a mate off the surf and forgot what fun it was :water:

So now I have ordered a decent surf rod and got a lighter one for some surf whiting, etc, I want to start heading out regularly, maybe even once a week while it's warm.

So my question to you lot is, what do you use to carry your gear, and why?

I use the below bag from BCF:

http://m.bcf.com.au/Product/Rogue-Trekk ... Bag/363515

Mainly because it was cheap at the time. I don't mind it but I have no idea what that strap going horizontal across the tackle box storage area is for though? (if anyone knows the answer to that please let me know, I'm sure it's something simple and I will look silly but oh well

I try and limit the gear I take but it seems even necessities are quite a few in number.

So what do you use when heading to the surf and why?

I've got this: http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/prod ... mendations

It's pretty comfortable and has heaps of storage. Might be overkill depending on what stuff you normally bring but I'd get another one (or similar on ebay) without hesitation.

I use either a small back pack or a metal frame hiking pack with the pack removed and whatever I need strapped to the frame, depending on how much gear i'm bringing

A simple cheapie from Big-W, which cost about $10. Been through heaps and is still intact!

Has five external zip pockets for pliers, knife, etc.

I carry any lures, hooks etc in a small tackle box in the main bag.

When it gets dirty, I just chuck it in the washing machine and it come out like new.

Cheers,

Mike.

A cheap K-mart backpack, I think it was about $40.

I have several small tackle trays in the back of my car - one for soft plastic fishing, one for metals, one for squidding, one for bait rigs etc... about ten trays in all .... when I arrive at my fishing spot I just throw the ones I need into the backpack (usually only 2 or 3 trays) and leave the others behind. I hate carrying around extra stuff I'm not gonna need.

I have the same bag as 4liters holds a ton of stuff if you want it to, I use the secret compartment in the very bottom for all my squiding stuff.. floats and all !

I have an Abu Garcia satchel type setup (Indiana Jones style). It is large enough to carry a couple of tackle trays and assorted odds and ends such as leader, knives/multitools etc, tape measure, small towel.

Something similar to this...
