Dezza,

My technique is fairly ordinary to be honest. Something I want to practice a little more. So yes I'm all about banging out a pillie as far as possible. You saying the Daiwa would perhaps be a lighter rod and better suited to this?

Cheers,

Jay
The extra length gives you an extra advantage when you cast, you just have to get used to it. You sound like you want something with a softer action so I would have a look at the Daiwa. Its all down to personal preference.
Cast, catch and put it back

Ok we'll I've gone ahead and purchased a Shimano Aerowave Graphite 13ft Heavy outfit and will pair it with my current Aerlex 8000 which will pull in just about anything I could manage (15kg drag).

I've also purchased an Aernos FB 5000 compact which has 7kg of drag and weighs about 315g - will pair this with my existing Raider II Mexican Fire 9ft travel. It will live in the boot of my car for those quick and random trips.

Looking forward to getting my hands on em :)

I was originally going to get one but a bit of research indicated they had a rep for breaking at the ferrule, no idea if this is the case but decided to steer clear as a result.
Hey Maz do you mean the at the join when you say the ferrule?
When i was looking at this rod i noticed that at the ferrule the two pieces don't come together as they do in other rods. The guys at the tackle shop mentioned that it wont effect the strength at the join.. but it does stand out.
yeah, can't remember the specifics but there was something about the join not having sufficient wrapping and resulting in a weak point

They beefed up the join on the newer ones with a metal ferrule and it seems fine now, as Doug mentioned i had issues with the earlier ones when they first came on the market.

The join is noticeably different, the newer ones join looks similar to that on the daiwa saltiga surf rods with a metal insert where the older ones just have the standard binding at the join. Ive had this one for twelve months now replaced one of the failed ones and it had just arrived when it was exchanged.

The older ones, all 13ft btw, i had all failed in the exact same spot at the bottom section join of the three pieces, don't have first hand experience if it was an issue on any of the shorter rods. But it was changed on the 13 and 14fters.
